Tip: Always set your Stop Loss when you open a trade, even where it isn't mandatory on your plan - it's the simplest way to stay within your risk limits.

There are a few ways to open a trade in MT5 - use whichever feels most natural.

Using the order window (recommended)

  • Press F9, or right-click a symbol in Market Watch and choose New Order.

  • Set your volume (in lots), and optionally your Stop Loss and Take Profit.

  • Choose Market Execution for an instant fill at the current price, or set up a pending order at a specific price.

  • Click Buy or Sell to place the trade.

One-click trading

  • Press Alt+T on a chart to enable the one-click trading bar, and accept the disclaimer if prompted.

  • Click directly on the Buy or Sell price shown on the chart to place a market order instantly.

Always set your Stop Loss when you open a trade, even where it isn't mandatory on your plan - it's the simplest way to keep a single position within your risk limits.
